People in flood-affected areas of Kerala are busy rebuilding their lives; but the life post-flood is not that easy. Hundreds succumbed to death and millions lost their homes in one of the worst natural disasters Kerala has ever witnessed and the miseries don’t end here. The wide-spreading diseases and the contamination of drinking water, are few of the many after-effects of flood.
Ensuring the safety of drinking water following a flood, is of utmost importance, whether it is from a well or a public water system. After weeks of nightmare, diseases form contaminated water is something nobody would even want to think of.
A water purification system that works on reverse osmosis technology, proves to be a viable solution to purify contaminated water. In Cochin, a truck took the form of a mobile water treatment plant, that was driven to various parts of the city. In RO technology, water pumped from the source is passed through the plant which then gets converted into drinking water. 500 litres per hour is the capacity of the plant.
The treated water will be stored in a tank and can be used for three days. The silver ionisation technology helps in retaining minerals and ensuring that it is bacteria-free.Reverse Osmosis is a water purification technology that uses ions, molecules and larger particles from drinking water, using semipermeable membrane. In this process, an applied pressure is used to overcome osmotic pressure.
